Flood Watch issued May 1 at 12:05PM AKDT until May 2 at 12:00PM AKDT by NWS Fairbanks AK * WHAT...Flooding caused by an ice jam is possible. * WHERE...Along the Tanana River from 3 miles down stream of Manley Hot Springs * WHEN...Through Thursday morning. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Be prepared for fluctuating water levels and flooding as the ice jam moves downriver. It is possible for the current jam to degrade and to reform further downstream. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - An ice jam has formed ~3 miles downstream of Manley and is causing minor flooding at the community park along the slough. As of midday Wednesday, the River Watch team reports that this jam does not appear to be strong. However, ice is still in place and looks strong at the jam point which caused flooding in 2022. You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
