Red Flag Warning issued May 14 at 5:18PM CDT until May 15 at 9:00PM CDT by NWS Bismarck ND ...RED FLAG WARNING FOR ALL OF WESTERN AND CENTRAL NORTH DAKOTA, INCLUDING THE JAMES RIVER VALLEY TODAY THROUGH FRIDAY... .Critical fire weather conditions will continue through Friday across western and central North Dakota, including the James River Valley. Westerly winds around 35 to 45 mph with gusts to 65 mph are expected in northwest and north central North Dakota through early this evening, with westerly winds around 30 to 40 mph and gusts to 55 mph in southwest and south central North Dakota. It will remain windy through tonight, with westerly winds increasing back to 25 to 35 mph and gusting to 50 mph Friday afternoon. Relative humidity will only recover to around 40 to 50 percent tonight and fall back to as low as 15 percent Friday afternoon. Any fires that ignite will spread rapidly and become difficult to control. * WINDS...West around 35 to 45 mph with gusts up to 65 mph. * RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 15 percent. * AFFECTED AREA...Western and central North Dakota, including the James River Valley. * IMPACTS...Any fires that ignite will spread rapidly and become difficult to control or suppress. A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
